Parents accused of caging autistic son

ANAHEIM – An 11-year-old autistic boy is in protective custody after police accused his parents of keeping him caged inside the family home.

Police received a call at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday from Orange County Child Protective Services, which had received a report the boy was being kept in a cage at a residence on the 1300 block of South Garrett Street, Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn said.

Officers arrived and found a large pet cage along with some bedding and a mattress inside, Dunn said.

Police arrested the boy’s parents, Tracy Trang Lee, 35, and Loi Vu, 40, on suspicion of felony child endangerment and felony false imprisonment.

The boy was rarely seen outside his home, neighbors said Wednesday.

“I never knew the parents had an 11-year-old,” said Frederick Sanborn, who lives across from the boy’s home.

The couple were released from jail Wednesday after posting $100,000 bail. No one answered the Vu’s door Wednesday.

Eva Bahena, another neighbor, said the allegation against Lee and Vu is

Driving somewhere Saturday? Some roads closed for Obama's visit

Several roads and freeway off-ramps in Orange County will be closed Saturday as President Barack Obama arrives to deliver the commencement speech for UC Irvine graduates at Angel Stadium.

Anaheim Police Department Lt. Bob Dunn said Thursday the closures would be on par with “when we have multiple events going on at a site.” He said motorists should avoid the affected areas before 2 p.m.

The first closure will be on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. That will shut down for 20 minutes beginning at 8:30 a.m. from Newport Coast Drive to Ledroit Street in Laguna Beach.

That same stretch of road will be shut down again from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.

Katella Avenue and Douglas Road in Anaheim will be closed for periods between

Tuesday was a day of celebration as Bruno, the Anaheim police K-9 shot in the face in a confrontation with a gunman, formally said goodbye to his fellow officers at his retirement party.

A six-year veteran of the Anaheim Police Department, Bruno spent most of the day bonding with fans at an Anaheim park, alongside his handler, Officer R.J. Young.

“It’s been an honor, and it’s a bittersweet thing… but he’s retiring on top,” Young said choking back tears.

Bruno, a 7-year-old German shepherd, suffered career-ending injuries when he was shot by a gunman, identified as 21-year-old Robert Moreno Jr., during a police altercation on March 20.

The bullet shattered Bruno’s jaw and pierced his lung before stopping near his heart.

Moreno was shot
